Discovering the Lévézou area.....

Lac de Pareloup
Tuesday 7th June 2016
We're following the cycle route around the lake today.

Lac de Pareloup is a dammed lake on the Lévézou plateau, about 800 m above sea level, apparently it's connected to four other lakes in the area.

Saint-Martin des Faux
Stopped off for a breather after climbing a steep hill to Saint-Martin des Faux.

Next stop was the dam .

Canet-de-Salars
We cycled through Canet-de-Salars, looking out for an Auberge that we knew was english owned but was shut like most of France....

Canet-de-Salares
Finally, back to the campsite after about 24km ride around the lake. Apparently, it's a very good fishing lake for carp, some are catching fish upto 25 kilos.... and we've seen some big ones being caught.

Pont-de-Salars
Pont-de-Salars is a nearby town with two lakes, not as big as Pareloup. We had a wander about the town and were pleasantly surprised to see a few shops open. Of course, we have to avoid their long lunch break between 12 and 2 or sometimes longer.....

Interesting car parked up in Pont-de-Salars

a view of the wind farm up on the hill
It's Friday and today we have a picnic packed in the pannier for an all day cycle to the Peyrebrune Tower, about a 30 mile round trip.

Now up on the hill with the wind farm

Feeling good with ourselves after quite a climb

This is the Salles-Curan wind farm comprising of 29 turbines, which is part of a system in this area that provides 5% of electricity in France.

Finally arrived and enjoyed our ham and cucumber baguettes

Have to say. this cycle route has proved to be quite a challenge, very hilly.

Peyrebrune Tower
The Peyrebrune Tower is the remains of a 11th century castle. Standing 913m on the Lévézou plateau.
a must do, selfie

Salles-Curan
At last, we were back at Salles-Curan and the Patisserie was open. We treated ourselves to a strawberry tart each.
