Our drive from Avila, Spain to Portugal......

Unfortunately, we only had a brief encounter with Avila but we did see the magnificent castle wall. 

We shall probably come back and spend more time here and Salamanca. Perhaps in the warmer months with our Adria!





We set off fairly early and filled up on the way.  
We travelled about another 739 km over the border at Vilar Formosa and on to Pedreiras in the district of Leiria. The day was very dull and very wet. 

We stopped off on the way at Ciudad Rodrigo for a coffee, there was a chill in the air and glimpses of snow lying on the roadside. It was not a day for taking in the sights.

 We drove on. When we crossed the border in to Portugal we used their electronic toll which was much more convenient then having to find the right coins for the toll machines!

We finally arrived at our friend's house in the pouring rain and stayed a couple of nights.
