We arrived a few minutes after 1pm and chose a pitch, tucked away in the corner. It never ceases to amaze us how busy these caravan sites are, it's only April and yet there aren't many hard standing pitches available.
Later, after all our chores were done we went off for a walk along the canal. When we returned we noticed a drake Mallard sat on our pitch under the white blossom of the Blackthorn hedge.
It didn't surprise me, the canal is nearby and it's not unusual to see wildlife wandering around.
As I moved slightly towards it, it became agitated and noisy, finally wandering off through the hedge, muttering.
I was curious and took a quick look where it had been sitting, thinking there maybe a nest. Lying in the undergrowth was a very still female Mallard, quite dead. It all became clear. The duck was removed, but would you believe the drake appeared later in the day and went to the same spot and sat.
Later, after we had been food shopping, and had a mid-day snack, we went for a bike ride along the canal, not too much traffic on the tow path found ourselves at Bradford-on-Avon.
