A day in Rome...

Our next port of call was Civitavecchia in Italy.  We teamed up with a couple on our dining table, Mike and Elena, who also seemed keen to visit Rome on a budget. We had already done our homework on finding out the options of getting ourselves to Rome from the port. We favoured the train, getting off at a station near the Vatican.

After looking around Domvs Artis, via della Conciliazione, a very nice souvenir shop with a restroom. We began our walking tour, map in hand and crossed the river heading towards   Piazza Navona.

We had somehow missed Navona Square on our previous trips to Rome, glad we found it this time round. It is a beautiful square built on the former Stadium of Domitian, built by Emperor Domitian in 86 AD.

We stopped off for a coffee and to people watch

How does he do that?

Our Walking tour took us to Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Piazza Popolo
and then back to the train station near the Vatican. It was a long walk. Unfortunately, we missed the train we had planned to get. We only had a 30 minute wait for the next one, but when you are organising your own tour, there always seems to be that little anxiety of "will we make it back to the ship in time ! " I hasten to say we were back well within time....
