Chalk and cheese rolls..

At last we woke to sunshine and no wind, with our walking boots on,
we set off on a hike with our lunch packed.

Nothing too exerting, a stroll brought us up to chimneys we had seen in the distance. Turned out to be a plant for processing calcium carbonate or chalk. What made it interesting was, a long distance conveyor bringing chalk from a quarry further down the valley.

We walked on, eventually coming to the quarry, although well screened.

Making our way back to Ashwell we came across  Ruddery Pit which we presume was an old chalk pit from earlier times ?

A handy bench came into view and we sat and ate our cheese rolls, eventually making our way back to the site.
