Celebrations continue in Ste Mere - Eglise.....

It is still the 7th June, 1944, some of our party choose to go to Ste Mere-Eglise, the crowds got the better of the others and they return to the campsite to continue partying.

When we turned off the N13 for Ste Mere-Eglise, we came across a field turned into a carpark, fit for cars and camper vans. Just a small stroll down to the town we were welcomed with a great party atmosphere. Military vehicles were seen all around, British, U.S and French flags flying and people dressed in military or 40's costume. But what struck me the most, was the atmosphere, visitors and French families picnicking, dancing, singing and just having a great time!

In the early morning of 6 June, 1944 mixed units of the U.S. 82nd Airborne  and U.S. 101st Airborne Divisions occupied the town in Operation Boston , giving it claim  to be one of the first towns liberated in the invasion.
